Yesterday was Emily's class field trip, today was Meg's class! We love all of the field trips the school takes the kids on...they've had many great experiences! The first grade went to the University of North Texas in Denton to their learning lab. There were lots of great learning opportunites, and all of the guides were wonderful with the children.
They had a hands-on learning lab in which the children could play thinking games, experiment with energy, and star in their own weather forecast! Outside, the children searched for hidden animal statues, then read about each one to determine if it was a herbivore or carnivore. They liked the pond outside the best! Ms. Long was a lot more laid back than I was...so nervous we'd have a kid soaking wet and covered in pond scum! I tried to follow her lead and chill out some : ) But the kids' absolute FAVORITE activity of the day was.....THE BONE DIG! They first learned about the ancient animal they were digging for (an ancestor of the horse), and then learned the proper way to dig with a partner. Then they got to it! Everyone had so much fun uncovering their treasures of paleontology! After finding a bone, they had to go and figure out which bone it was and where it fit on the diagram of the horse.
It's been a fun-filled week, and this weekend doesn't look like it will slow down much at all! We've got Spring Fling at the school tonight, then a fellowship up at church. And Saturday will be filled with soccer and soccer pictures, assuming it doesn't rain! Hope your weekend is good too!
