This weekend was SO much fun! For the second year in a row, Emily and I got to go to Children's Camp together with our church. This year we brought our best friends, Ms Celeste and her daughter, Chase, so it was extra special for us! We had a cabin of 6 third grade girls, and they were an absolute joy! We immediately came up with a name for ourselves: The Pine Cove Cuties. Ms. Celeste, the ever talented face painter, even painted pine cones on the girls' faces.
The camp was built around a Chronicles of Narnia theme! Check out our awesome cabins! We were in the Brindlethumb cabin.
The girls (and us big people too) enjoyed the bible time with Mr. David, who taught us about not just flying, but SOARING! We focused on the verse Isaiah 40:31a: "But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles..." We had great times of discussion with our girls in the beauty of God's creation!
There was also LOTS of silliness! This weekend was ALL ABOUT THE KIDS! So before every meal, we would all stand up in our chairs, bang our plates with our forks, and yell and scream until our ears hurt, and danced our little hearts out! There were fun skits and our favorite hero, a big yellow chicken we named "Chick Norris". (and lots of doing the chicken dance!)
Then on Saturday afternoon, we got a big block of time for the kids to experience all kinds of things. Our girls chose to try archery. Emily quickly got the hang of it and even shot one arrow in the yellow! We thought that probably counted as a bullseye!

And horseback riding! This was the event that Emily had been waiting all year to do again! She loves horses. This year she got to ride on "Wilder".

Our last night at camp is the highlight of the weekend: PITCH BLACK ATTACK! In the dark of the night we scurry around camp trying to find different check points and make it back to base with our "microchip" still securely in our possession. But you have to watch out for the "posse"! If they catch you, then you have to try to fool them in to thinking that you are something else like bears, rocks, or the posse paparazzi! They may believe you or they may not and take your microchip. We didn't have the fastest time, but we still had SO much fun creeping through the woods together getting our hearts pumping! And didn't we look cute? Betcha can't even see us!
Emily and I will always treasure this time we've had together! It's a wonderful time for the girls to try a little independence (Emily chose not to take a shower all weekend), try something new, and to go crazy having a TON of fun! Next year, Meg will be old enough to go! She cannot wait! She's heard so much from her big sister these last two years. Maybe even Dan will go too and the whole family will get to experience the fun of Children's Camp together!
