So this year, I took a turn with Meg and her friends as a cabin sponsor! I tell you....it is as much fun for us grown-ups as it is for the kiddos! It's so exciting to see them get brave and try something for the first time! The college kids who run the camp, do such a great job with the kids! They are SO energetic, getting them pumped up to worship and learn about God. AND they are incredibly patient, because for many of us...it takes some time and coaxing to work up our courage in the different outdoor activities!
Most of the photos are of Meg and our group, but I did get a few of Emily and the big 4th grade girls! The cabin sponsors all get special gifts just for their girls in their cabin. This year we ironed on the girls' names in jewels on sock hats. Emily's chaperones made them cute hot pink matching t-shirts! And the event that all of the kids look forward to the most is Pitch Black Attack, a game/mission played in the dark our last night there. We get all done up in black and camo to make ourselves hard to detect in the dark by "the posse".
The camp has a really cool "Narnia" theme. The girls' cabins are made to look like castles, and each have names from different characters in CS Lewis' books. We were in "Glimfeather". If you look closely, you can spot a lampost or two around camp!
Meg enjoyed learning to shoot a bow and arrow, and was SO brave to try the "Gauntlet" AND the "Breathtaker"! The Gauntlet is a huge swing, where they pull you up 20 feet in the air and then let you go to swing back and forth! The Breathtaker is a ropes course that ends with a zip line. She climbed up a 20 foot pole, inched her way across some wires to a log that she side-stepped across, until she finally made it to the big payoff: the Zip Line!
We had such a sweet group of little girls, two of whom were new! The girls all took right to them. I think they all had a fabulous time!
I hope that next year, even Dan gets to go and experience the fun of PINE COVE!
