Real Life Heroes

Emily's class has been studying heroes at school. This past Wednesday, they had the opportunity to meet some real-life HEROES! Their entire 3rd grade went to the DFW airport to welcome home many of our brave soldiers. It was such an honor and so incredibly awesome to be a part of thanking these incredible men and women.

The children all wore red, waved US flags, and held up signs they made at school. They also wrote letters of thanks to the service men and women that were passed out at the door.

Though some soldiers were understandably solomn upon their return, many grinned from ear to ear at the sight of all of these kids cheering and waving flags welcoming them home. The kids got a kick out of the high fives that lots of them gave up and down the line.

We got a special surprise after the troops had all gone home or made their way to their connecting flights.......a 3 star general spoke to our kiddos! Just the day before he had been at the inauguration, but he said he came to DFW that day because he had heard what a warm welcome our city gives to our heroes, and he wanted to see it and be a part of it. He told them how very much it means to the men and women to have the children and families there showing our appreciation, and he thanked us.

It was such a wonderful experience! We were told that planes land at DFW every day full of soldiers coming home -- some for good, some for R&R -- but every day! We hope to go back again as a family soon!
